Executive Thesis

"This is not guochao nostalgia. Chinese consumers are shifting spend from logo-led Western labels toward domestic brands with credible craft and Tmall-proven velocity. The hit is concentrated in accessible luxury and entry-tier small leather goods — not the apex of the market. True high luxury remains Western-led."

Where They Win · Online vs Offline

Up = online momentum · Right = store count. Digital leaders sit top-left; national door count anchors the right.

What This Means for Luxury Retail

Wallet reallocation inside leather — not a collapse of luxury. The fight is the first purchase: ¥1,000–4,000 bags and small leather goods.

Under Pressure

  • Logo-led entry without a craft story
  • Coach / MK lane — domestic #1 & #3 on Tmall 11.11 2025
  • Online bag share collapse — Gucci −50%, MK −40% (2025)

Largely Insulated · For Now

  • True high luxury — Hermès, Chanel
  • ¥4,000–8,000 step-up bags — pressure building; ~¥8k+ icons still hold
  • Craft-led Western winners: Loewe, Bottega Veneta

Analyst POV

I've watched this go from XHS discovery to Tmall-proven share gain. This isn't LVMH being replaced — it's the entry ladder being rewritten. Bampo wins offline at 600 doors; digital cult labels win online. Both take wallet from Coach, not from the Birkin. Lose the ¥2,000 bag today, lose the ¥20,000 client tomorrow — not one bag, the client. Qiuzhen's vertical integration and Dissona's craft bench are the domestic moats worth watching.
